The Morashá Institute of Culture has as one of its priorities for 2003 the implementation of a Memory Center, the most precious treasure that any institution can bequeath to future generations.
These are initiatives of this nature that allow us, now, to have access to the life experiences of our ancestors, cherishing them as lessons for the future.
Regarding the Jewish people, it is imperative to have records capable of covering their diversity of origins, which leads to a fascinating variety of cultures, arts, traditions and liturgies.
The Memory Center of the Morashá de Cultura Institute intends to bring together in its collection testimonies recorded on video by the generation of immigrants who came to make their lives, with their families, in Brazil, personal objects brought from their countries of origin and, as a loans, photographs, letters, documents and everything else that could enrich this important collection.
In a first stage, communities from Lebanon, Syria, Greece, Turkey and Egypt will be focused. Subsequently, communities from Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal and North Africa will be covered.
The objective of the Memory Center, in addition to preserving the history of these immigrant communities in Brazil, is to provide free access to the public through consultations on its Virtual Bank. This project is the first initiative to preserve a rich and varied history and, in the future, promote the publication of publications, as well as the holding of documentary and artistic exhibitions, in partnership with institutions in Brazil and abroad.
Your participation in collecting photos, documents and testimonies from members from these communities will be of fundamental importance for the success of the Morashá da Memória Center.
