LETTER TO THE READER: YEAR XXV N.100 June 2018

Morasha celebrates 25 years, a quarter of a century!

This edition of our Magazine is the 100th since it began publication. Over the last 25 years, Morashá has reached hundreds of thousands of people, in Brazil and other countries.

In Judaism, numbers are highly significant. There are 100 editions and this number, a multiple of 10, symbolizes integrity and plenitude.

Since its creation, the objective of this publication has been to publicize the many facets of Judaism and issues pertinent to the Jewish People and State, so that our readers can better understand the Jewish religion and the history and legacy of our people. The thousands of articles brought over these years dealt with our enormous and endless collection: the Torah, the Jewish Festivals and important dates in our calendar, the History of the Jewish People and Jewish communities around the world, the Holocaust, the State of Israel, the Sages and Jewish personalities who are a source of pride for our people and have enriched humanity so much.

The contributions of the People of Israel to humanity are incomparable. Monotheism – the belief in a single G-d -, the 10 Commandments and the Torah, the basis of ethics and morality for Western Civilization – are legacies of Judaism. Furthermore, the countless contributions made by our people to the most diverse fields of human, scientific and technological knowledge are notable. John Adams, the second president of the United States, wrote: “The Jews have done more to civilize men than any other nation. Even if I were an atheist and believed in a blind eternal destiny, I would still believe that destiny had ordained that these people were the most essential instrument for civilizing the nations.... The Romans and their empire were just a bubble compared to the Jews . They have been a source of inspiration to three-quarters of the world and have influenced the affairs of humanity with more intensity and success than any other nation, ancient or modern.”

It has been 25 years since Morashá published its first edition. The Magazine and the world have changed a lot in this quarter of a century, as our readers will see in the timeline we are publishing. Despite the challenges faced by the Jewish People and the State of Israel – conflicts and wars, terrorism and violence in our Land, and assimilation and the resurgence of anti-Semitism – in recent decades the light of Judaism has shone brightly and the State of Israel has become stronger and modern.

The ancient dreams of a people are coming true and Morashá recorded them for posterity.

In Judaism, the number 100 also means thanksgiving: King David's 100th Psalm is the famous Mizmor Le'Todá (a Psalm of Thanks). Therefore, we thank all those who sponsored, collaborated and contributed to our Morashah over the last 25 years, enabling the spread of Judaism. And we pledge to continue in our sacred mission of spreading awareness about the issues of our people, the State of Israel and Jews who contribute to the advancement of humanity.

We hope and pray that G‑d will continue to grant us this privilege and honor LeOlam Vaed, for many, many years.
